What is an Application Letter?
• also known as cover letter.

• a standalone document an applicant submits to a potential


employer to express interest in an open position.

• a personal sales letter wherein the applicant is selling his/her


skills, services and personality to a perspective employer.

• reveals the true worth of the applicant with his/her sufficient


assurance on the job applied for.
Why do we write an Application
Letter?
• Primarily, an application letter is made to provide
additional background information about your
application.

• to explain who you are as a professional and an


individual.

• to improve the applicant’s chances of being called


for an interview, by convincing the potential
employer that the applicant would be the best
person for the job.

NOTE: It must be carefully and thoughtfully written to create a favorable impression to the employer for an interview.

1.    Solicited application is when the
letter is answering an advertisement.

• As much as possible the salary should be avoided unless the
employer request that applicant should state it.

• The letter should be neatly type because the appearance of the


letter mirrors the personality of the applicant.

• The beginning sentence creates the first impression to the reader, his
purpose, where he learned the vacancy and the summary statement
of his qualification
• The concluding statement suggest action for an interview at the
employer’s convenience

• Resume are the pertinent information of the
applicant that includes the personal and
professional background.

• The data is the complete picture of the


applicant’s profile not stated in the application
