Introduction

Hello Everyone, My name is Zoie Rollin and I am Lunar High School Media
Specialist.

I am here today to advocate on the behalf of Lunar High School’s Library. And,
why the library program should not be cut from next school year.

School libraries provide equitable physical and intellectual access to the

resources and tools required for learning in a warm, stimulating, and safe
environment.
 Why Are School Libraries Important?

● School library programs foster critical thinking,

providing students with the skills they need to analyze,
form, and communicate ideas in compelling ways.
● School libraries are learning hub and homework help
centers where students can use technology to best
find information resources.
● Strong school library programs instill confidence in
reading, which is fundamental to learning, personal
growth, and enjoyment.
School Libraries Are Essential

● According to a 2016 study by Stanford University, more than 80% of middle

schoolers cannot tell the difference between sponsored content and a real news
article.
● Students in high-poverty schools are almost twice as likely to graduate when the
school library is staffed with a certified school librarian.
● School libraries give students a unique opportunity for self-directed inquiry. Four
out of five Americans agree that libraries help spark creativity among young
people.

Benefits of School Library Program

● Teacher librarians are experienced professional development providers. They

work with all departments and grade levels, and understand how new techniques
and technology can be applied to the entire campus.
● Libraries play an integral role in teaching and supporting 21st century skills
crucial to college and career readiness, such as locating and evaluating
information online.
● Effective school library programs have been proven to have positive impacts on
student achievement, digital literacy skills, college and career readiness, and
campus climate and culture.

Conclusion

In conclusion, school library programs are important and beneficial to students

education. Having school librarians help connect other educators to current
trends and resources for teaching and learning. School library programs are
essential partners for all teachers, providing print and digital materials that meet
diverse needs and offering opportunities to deepen student learning. If the
school library program were to be cut from next school year, I feel that we
wouldn’t be offering students the best education possible. This why the school
library program should remain in place.
