Did you know??

While the man is busy

exploring the wonders of
space, there are still many
areas where there is no
electricity.
Electricity? What is
    electricity?
Electricit
y

Electricity is the flow of electrical

power or charge. It is a
secondary energy source which
means that we get it from the
conversion of other sources of
energy, like coal, natural gas, oil,
nuclear power and other natural
sources, which are called primary
sources. Electricity can be
classified into two types:-
1. Dynamic Electricity
2. Static Electricity
Did you know?
• Arunachal Pradesh is one of
the few states in India whose
electricity sector is dominated
by renewable energy—Fossil
fuels only contribute 22 per
cent to the total installed
capacity.
• Meghalaya is the only state in
the region that draws 70 per
cent of its electricity from
renewable energy.
Hmm..Ma'am, But what are
the  sources of energy used for
electricity production in these
states?

Those figures were really
interesting, ma'am... But
where are these power

Sound Interesting. Ma'am,
But what are the
advantages and limitations
of these sources?
Advantages of Renewable Energy  sources

1. Renewable energy won’t run out

2. Maintenance requirements are lower

3. Renewables save money

4. Renewable energy has numerous health

and environmental benefits

5. Renewables lower reliance on foreign

energy sources
Disadvantages of Renewable sources

1. Geographic limitations: There are

some geographies that are more suitable
for renewable technologies than others
2. Higher upfront cost

3. Availability :Though renewable energy

resources are available around the world,
many of these resources aren’t available
24/7, year-round.

4. Storage capabilities
Students, I hope that you
have understood the
concept  because now I am
going to ask you a few
questions.

Q.1 Name the most exploited source of renewable

energy in these states.
So many hands.. So you all
have understood the
concept really well, I am
impressed. Rohan, you
answer this one.
Yes ma'am. The most
exploited source of
renewable energy in these states
is Solar Energy and Water Energy.

The State Govt. through The Meghalaya New and

Renewable Energy Development Agency
(MNREDA) has identified three sources of
Renewable Energy that can be exploited in the
state and available in abundance out of many
sources of renewable i.e. solar photovoltaic, wind
energy and bio-energy.
Good Job, Rohan. Now,
This question is a tricky
one. Let's see who will
answer it.

Q.2 Why do we need to use environment friendly

energy resources?
Yes, I was expecting even
lesser hands but anyway,
this question goes to
you, Rahul.
Yes ma'am. There is a pressing need to use renewable energy resources in India because:
1) The conventional sources of energy are at the extent of getting exhausted and there is a need
for alternative sources i.e. renewable sources of energy to sustain development.
2) The economic development plans implemented by government require steady and increasing amount of
energy to remain optional.
3) The consumption of energy in all forms is steadily rising and is growing at a faster rate than the formation
of the resources such as coal, petroleum etc.
4) The environment is getting harmed a lot due to the smoke and pollution produced by the non-renewable
resources.
5) The renewable sources are needed to compensate the needs and preserve the environment as they are
'Eco-friendly ' in nature and are inexhaustible.
Fantastic Rahul. Now let
me elaborate on this.
Why do we need to use
environment friendly energy
resources?

There is a pressing need to use renewable energy

resources in India because:-
1) The conventional sources of energy are at the extent
of getting exhausted and there is a need for alternative
sources i.e. renewable sources of energy to sustain
development.
2) The economic development plans implemented by
government require steady and increasing amount of
energy to remain optional.
3) The consumption of energy in all forms is steadily
rising and is growing at a faster rate than the formation
of the resources such as coal, petroleum etc.
4) The environment is getting harmed a lot due to the
smoke and pollution produced by the non-renewable
resources.
5) The renewable sources are needed to compensate
the needs and preserve the environment as they are
'Eco-friendly ' in nature and are inexhaustible.
Some examples of renewable sources of energy are
solar energy, wind energy etc.
So, I think everyone has
understood the concept
now. This is all for today's
class. Hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you
