INTRODUCTION
✗ 1.1. BACKGROUND
✗ The English language is used in nearly every industry throughout the
world, including science, engineering and technology, medical, trade
and commerce, scientific research, education, tourism, the internet,
banking, business, and advertising (Rao, 2019:6)
✗ Vocabulary is the foundational component the kid must learn to be
proficient in those language abilities (Marlina, 2017:272).
✗ Drop application does not take a lot of money or time. The only
requirement for using the program is to download Drops, which is
partially free and has the biggest benefit for modern usage (Nalyvaiko,
2019:111).

1.2 Identification of the Problem
In light of the above discussion, the following issues may be
identified:
✗ The students have difficulties in understanding the words when they
learned because most of the students were graduated from public
elementary school where public schools had abolished the English
language lesson and as the result, the students are lack of the
vocabulary.
✗ The teacher only used textbooks and whiteboards to describe the

subject
that students will study, which is less entertaining and less varied
than
other teaching methods.
✗ The students felt English lessons were difficult because they were easy to
forget every vocabulary in English and as a result, they did not remember

students’ vocabulary at VII grade students of SMPN 20
Pekanbaru.
