Sources of history

Historical sources are, at their most basic level, something

that tells us about history. It may be a document, a picture,
a sound recording, a book, a cinema film, a television
program or an object. Any sort of artifact from the period in
question that conveys information can qualify as a source
TYPES OF SOURCES OF HISTORY

• Written/ printed materials produced in one

form or another sometime in the past

creating a dictatorial government in order to access the
situation in the Philippines and institute peace and order.
Five days later, Aguinaldo then issued another decree

the past of human during early ages
Primary Sources
A ‘Primary Source’ is a document that was written or an
object which was created, in the time period in which you
are working. A ‘first hand’ item. (Wilde,2019)
It is an information that is the closest to the event and is
directly handed down by a person whom witnesses a
certain event, examples are diaries, letters and even
photographs and paintings.
Secondary Sources
A ‘ Secondary Source’ can be defined in two ways: it is anything
about a historical event which was created using primary sources,
and/or which was one or more stages removed from the time period
and the event. A ‘second hand’ item.(Wilde,2019)
Secondary sources are based on primary sources and are
reviewed and analyzed by the writers, it could be bias depending on
the perspective of the writer, examples are review articles,
newspapers and magazines.
Tertiary Sources
Sometimes you will see a third class: the tertiary source. These
are items like dictionaries and encyclopedias: history is written using
both primary and secondary sources and shrunk down to the basic
points. We've written for encyclopedias, and tertiary is not a
criticism.(Wilde,2019) Tertiary sources are made from secondary
sources and sometimes less credible because it can be distorted,
examples are general references, crowd sources and even social
media references.
