Plant Cell

Animal Cell
Plant Cell
Plant cells are the basic unit of life in organisms
of the kingdom Plantae. They are eukaryotic
cells, which have a true nucleus along with
specialized structures called organelles that
carry out different functions. Plant cells have
special organelles called chloroplasts, which
create sugars via photosynthesis.

Animal Cell
Animal cells are the building blocks that make up
all living organisms in the kingdom Animalia.
They give bodies structure, absorb nutrients to
convert to energy, and help animals move. They
also contain all the hereditary material of an
organism and can make copies of themselves.

Plant Cell
1. Have a cellulose cell wall outside the cell membrane.
2. Have a cell membrane.
3. Have cytoplasm.
4. Have a nucleus.
5. Often have chloroplasts containing chlorophyll.
6. Have prominent one or more vacuoles.
7. Often regular in shape.

Animal Cell
1. Have no cell wall.
2. Have no chloroplasts.
3. Have only small vacuoles.
4. Often irregular in shape.
5. Do not contain plastids.
6. Have complex and prominent Golgi apparatus.
7. Cytoplasm fills almost the entire cell.
The Cell Theory
The Cell Theory

Who explain cell theory?

The cell theory was proposed by two
scientists- Schleiden (1838)and Schwann
(1839). It says that all the plants and animals
are composed of cells and the cell is the basic
unit of life. The cell theory was further
expanded by Virchow (1855) by suggesting
that all cells arise from pre-existing cells.
The Cell Theory

By the late 1830s, botanist Matthias Schleiden

and zoologist Theodor Schwann were studying
tissues and proposed the unified cell theory. The
unified cell theory states that: all living things
are composed of one or more cells; the cell is
the basic unit of life; and new cells arise from
existing cells
The Cell Theory

In 1838, Matthias Schleiden, a German botanist,

concluded that all plant tissues are composed of cells
and that an embryonic plant arose from a single cell.
He declared that the cell is the basic building block of
all plant matter. This statement of Schleiden was the
first generalizations concerning cells.

What are the 3 cell theory?

Parts of Cell Theory: The Three Principles

1) All living things are made up of cells.

2) A cell is the smallest unit of structure and
function in a living thing.
3) All cells arise from preexisting cells.
The Cell Theory
What is cell theory and why is it important?

The cell theory definition states that cells are the

building blocks of life. Cells both make up all living
things and run the processes needed for life. Your hair,
skin, organs, etc. are all made up of cells.

How did cell theory develop?

By the early 1800s, scientists had observed the cells of
many different organisms. These observations led two
German scientists, named Theodor Schwann and
Matthias Jakob Schleiden, to propose that cells are the
basic building blocks of all living things.
