HEAT LOAD CALCULATION :-

Assume data , 
• Optimal storage temperature = 5 °C
• Optimal relative humidity = 80 – 90 %
• Approximate storage period = 3 – 4 weeks
• Quantity to be stored = 100 tonnes
• Ambient temperature conditions = 30 °c   and 70 % RH
• Assumed size of each box =0.554 * 0.304 * 0.228
• Product stored in cold storage :- Mangoes

 Properties of mango : -
1. Heat of respiration = 6499.9 kcal /ton/24hr
2. Bulk Density = 375 kg/ m^3
3. Specific Heat = 0.901 kcal/kg° C

 Properties of hard wood used for storing mango :-


1. Bulk density = 720 kg/m^3

INSULATION MATERIAL SELECTION :-
• The R (for resistance) number, is always associated with a thickness;
the higher the R value, the higher the resistance and the better the
insulating properties of the material.
• Our calculation is based on R-value 10-20-30 as this would be suitable
for most of the tropical countries, where the losses through the
buildings is higher.
• Based on the above R-value the most appropriate insulation material
can be selected considering various parameters like Availability of the
material, Cost on insulating material, conductivity, Quality and life of
the material.
