A new research agenda for education
Research from within education

Understand the reality of what is occurring in schools, classrooms, and the

many sites where education takes place.

Educational research Provides insights into the transformations taking place in individuals, in
communities and in society.

Education → Field of research and analysis in its own right.

Universities → Roles in promoting educational research.

Students are also important sources of knowledge and understanding about their own educational experiences,

aspirations, achievements, and reflections

Mobilizing the learning sciences

Scientific advances Neurosciences and the study of the brain

Greater understanding of neuroplasticity in all

stages of human development

The complexity of education → Inseparably with all aspects of the world

Danger in divorcing mind from matter

In order to make progress on the priorities described above, it is necessary to…

Transforming research partnerships for education

Tremendous potential to advance the
Partnerships that are interdisciplinary, inter-sectoral and cross-cultural → priorities and proposals put forward

The voices of grassroots communities and social movements → The frontline of the upheavals and changes shaping
our future.

Principles for dialogue and action
❖ The Commission calls for a generalized, worldwide, collective research agenda on the futures of

education.

❖ Knowledge, data, and evidence for the futures of education must be inclusive of diverse sources and

ways of knowing.

❖ Educational innovation must reflect a much wider range of possibilities across diverse contexts and

places.

❖ Research for a new social contract for education must be recast with everyone invited to take it forward.

What measures do you think could be taken in education to achieve inclusion of the whole education
