MODULE 9

A keyboard is one of the


primary input devices
 used with a computer.

It is composed of buttons
used to create letters, 
numbers, and symbols,
and perform additional
functions

1. Escape Key – This is usually


pressed to go back to your previous
task and to cancel the ongoing task.

2. Function Keys – they contain special functions


or shortcuts on a currently running program.
Different programs have different functions on
particular function keys.

3. Enter Key – it is used to confirm your


command on the keyboard, to move to the next
line when you’re editing in a word processing
program.

4. Number Keys – they are a
set of numeric keys found on
the right part of the
keyboard. They were
patterned on the keys of an
electronic calculator or
adding machine to type
easier.

5. Backspace Key – it is used to move the


cursor backward deleting the previously
typed text or character. This is normally used
when typing a document.

6. Caps lock Key – when it is press, they will


turn all the letters that you typed into uppercase.

7. Arrow Keys – they are the most commonly


used keys to move or navigate the keyboard
on the screen. They are commonly used in
playing games.

8. Space Bar – is used to insert a blank


space when you are typing on the computer.

9. Alphanumeric Keys – this contains letters


of the alphabet and numbers for typing
commands on the computer.

10. Indicator Lights – they are used to indicate


the lock status of some keys. The light toggles
when the corresponding keys are pressed.

Different parts of the keyboard are
necessary for keyboarding. These
parts include the following: Arrow
keys, ESC key, alphanumeric
keys, function keys, number keys,
enter key, escape key, caps lock,
space bar, and indicator lights.
