 We have been assigned a task to design a fully
ABSTRACT: functioning primary school in the village
affected by floods. The school has been
designed according to building design
principles.
1.BUILDING DESIGN PRINCIPLES:

Keep building elements in proportion. Proportion, continuity, harmony, simplicity,

rhythm and balance should prevail in building design. Building elements should be
balanced and in proportion to one another.
Pay attention to details. Attention to detailing, and emphasis on vertical and horizontal
articulation, are encouraged as tools to visually reduce the apparent mass of a building.
Select materials carefully. Exterior treatment should be restrained, not harsh or garish,
and should be selected for durability, weathering characteristics, and authenticity, as
well as for beauty.
Think about maintenance. Ease of maintenance should be considered in selecting
forms, fixtures, materials and finishes.
Coordinate the new with the old. When new construction is proposed on a site with
existing structures that are to be retained, the new work should be designed to
coordinate with the old.

• Staffroom

• Multi Purpose Hall

• Library

• Staff toilet

• Bathrooms

proper ventilation.
Staffroom

 The dimensions of the

staffroom should be 4.5m x

toilet should be 2m x 3m. It
should be near the staffroom
and principal office. There
should be 2 different staff toilets
for male and females.
Principal Office

 The dimensions of the principal

It should have direct access
from the main entrance
Resource
store

The dimensions of the

1.8m x 2.7m.
GROUPING AND LAYOUT:

CLASSROOM:
Classroom layout is one of the key decisions that teachers need to make when they begin a
new school year. A few of the items they need to decide include where to place the teacher's
desk, how to arrange student desks, and even whether to use a seating chart at all.
WASHROOM:
The washrooms are in line having properly attached wash basins and should have a proper
ventilation system.
PRINCIPAL OFFICE:
The principal office is near the main entrance so it should be easily accessible to visitors.
STAFF ROOM:
It is near the principal office, so principal could easily communicate with the staff.
