What is the Theory of Multiple
intelligences…
This theory was developed in 1983 by Howard
Gardner, Professor of Education at Harvard
University. It suggests that the traditional notion of
intelligence, based on I.Q. testing, is far too limited
Dr. Gardner proposes nine different intelligences
which can relate to a person’s unique aptitude set
of capabilities and ways they might prefer to
demonstrate intellectual abilities.
Few words for Howard Gardner…
He born in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1943.
He refused to go to Phillips Academy in Andover
Massachusetts and he entered Kingston in
Pennsylvania.
Then he went to Harvard University to study
History in readiness for a career in the law.
He entered Harvard’s doctoral programme in
1966 and completed his PhD in 1971.
He was a lecturer (1971-1986) and professor in
education (1986-)
Frame of Mind(1983) was Howard Grander, first
full-length statement of his theory of multiple
intelligences.
Importance of the theory today…
A person can
have more
than one
intelligence
Existential intelligence
is not so popular
but many people
have it without
knowing …
