Fracture
• A break or crack in a bone
• Closed fracture: skin not
broken
• Open fracture: skin is broken
• S.L.I.P.S.
• S= swelling, bruising
• L= loss of use of the limb
• I= irregularity, deformation
• P= pain, local tenderness
• S= shock
Dislocation & Sprain
• Dislocation: bones of a joint are
not in proper contact
• Sprain: injury to a ligament
R.I.C.E.
• R= rest
• I= immobilize
• C= cold
• E= elevation
