ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
Electronics engineering is a modern
engineering discipline focused on the
design and development of products and
systems using electronic technology. It was
developed in the early 20th century as
electronic broadcasting methods, including
radio and television, became more
widespread. The use of electronic
technologies in World War II, including
sonar, radar, and advanced weaponry,
further developed the field of electronics
engineering.
ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
Electronics engineering here in the Philippines
is a branch of Electrical Engineering that is
formed because of the exponential growth of
our present technology.

Most of our appliances in our home uses

electronics technology. We also encounter most
of them when we are at school, malls, fast food
store and any alike.

THEORY:
From the Law of Conservation of Energy,
Electrical Energy comes from one energy:
Mechanical Energy, Chemical Energy, Light
Energy, and etc.

Electrical now then converted into another

energy, it can be in mechanical, chemical,
thermal, sound, and etc.
THEORY:

Electricity is defined as a flow of

free electron which is commonly
known as Valence Electron. When
Voltage is applied in a circuit, those
free electrons will flow and is
commonly known as the Electric
Current.

CONDUCTORS, SEMI-CONDUCTORS,
AND INSULATORS
CONDUCTOR (Metals)

Conductor is a material that allows

the flow of a free electron.

A material is considered as a
conductor if it has 1-3 valence
electrons
SEMI - CONDUCTOR (Metalloids)

Semi-Conductor is a material that

has conductivity between that of an
insulator and that of most metals.

A material is considered as a semi-

conductor if it has exactly 4 valence
electrons.
INSULATOR (Non-Metals)
Insulator is a material that does not
allows the flow of a free electron.

A material is considered as an
insulator if it has completely filled
valence electron band.
ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT & BASIC
ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
Basic Electronic Circuit

An Electronic Circuit is a complete circular path

that electric current flow through.

A simple circuit consist of a Source,

Conductor, Load, and a Disconnecting Means.

Circuit – refering to any fixed path that electricity, data or a signal

can travel through.
ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT
Electronics Circuit is a structure
to direct and control electric
currents, performing some useful
functions.

It is composed of 4 parts
namely: Source, Connection,
Disconnecting Means, and the
Load.
Basic Electronics Components
Battery – an electronic component that causes
electrons to flow (current flow).
Basic Electronics Components
Light Emitting Diode (L.E.D.) – an electronic
component that converts electrical energy into light.
Basic Electronics Components
Capacitor – an electronic component that store
electric charge, consisting of one or more pairs of
conductors separated by an insulator.
Basic Electronics Components
Buzzer / Speaker – an electronic component that
converts electrical energy into a sound.
Basic Electronic Components
Resistor – an passive electronic component that
opposes the flow of current.

The Electrical current flowing through any circuit
is directly proportional to the voltage applied across
its ends.

POWER SUPPLY
POWER SUPPLY
A power supply is an electrical device that is
used to energize (give the electricity) to
electrical appliances. The energizing is done
through several processes until the electricity
is ready and suitable to use by the electrical
appliances. The processes can be easily
understood by the following block diagram.
Transformer
A device that uses the principle of
electromagnetic induction to transfer
energy from one electric circuit to
another.

It has two types a Step-Up and Step

Down Transformer. Step-Down is
used in a Power supply.
Diode

A semiconductor device that essentially acts as a

one-way switch for current. It allows current to
flow easily in one direction, but severely restricts
current from flowing in the opposite direction.

Diodes are also known as rectifiers because they

change alternating current (ac) into pulsating
direct current (dc). Diodes are rated according to
their type, voltage, and current capacity.
Capacitor
A device that store charges that can be
retained for a certain amount of time
even when the applied power source is
removed.

Filter Capacitor - produced DC from the

rectifier is smoothened by the capacitor and
reduces the unwanted ripples.
Resistor

A Drain Resistor also known as the

bleeder resistor and connected in parallel
to the filter capacitor.

It is used to drain the stored charge so

the system remains safe when input
supply is disconnected.
Integrated Circuit

The voltage regulation in a power supply

can be achieved using an electrical or
electronic device called as voltage
regulators. There are different types of
voltage regulators such as Fixed
voltage regulators and Variable
voltage regulators.
