Declaration of War
• December 8, 1941 - President Roosevelt with the approval of
the US Congress & Prime Minister Winston Churchill with the
approval of the British Parliament declared war against Japan.
• December 11, 1941
Roosevelt - Germany and Italy declared war against the United States.
- US therefore declared war on Germany and Italy on the same
day.
• These declarations commenced World War II.

From Pearl Harbor to the
Bombing of the Philippines
• Japanese pilots rerouted their targets from Pearl Harbor to the
Philippine territory.
• Bombs were dropped in Mindanao particularly Davao City.
• December 8, 1941 - President Roosevelt declared a war against
Japan. Other places of the archipelago were also bombed:
- Tuguegarao - Tarlac - Nichols Field near
- Baguio - Clark Field in Pampanga Manila
- Iba (Zambales) - Cavite Naval Base

• Japanese forces had devastated Clark Field, destroying 66 P-40
fighter planes and 14 of the 17B-17 bomber planes.

• December 10, 1941 - first wave of Japanese invading forces
landed in Aparri and Vigan, north of Luzon.
• December 12, 1941

forces of Bataan, surrendered to stop the slaughter of his helpless

Death March
• April 9, 1942 - the Japanese assembled about 76,000 prisoners of
war (10,000 Americans and 66,000 Filipinos) for a non-stop march
for 6 days from Mariveles, Bataan to San Fernando, Pampanga.
• Those who could not continue or keep up were shot down or
bayoneted.
• April 15, 1942 - survivors were taken to Camp O'Donnel in Capas,
Tarlac where many more died of starvation and disease (left 50,000
survivors)
