Porters Five force Model
Threats for new entrants
• Lower switching costs make it easier for end users to switch, leaving
more room for newcomers.
• Differentiated product – As the product, in this case electricity, is
different, consumers are tempted to switch to the less expensive
provider. This increases the opportunity for new and effective
competitors.
Bargaining power of customers
• Resource strength may be largely determined based on the following
characteristics.
• Size of resources: Very large
• Threat of Oligopoly: A few suppliers have a monopoly, which increases the power
of suppliers.
Threats of substitute products and services
• The cheaper product will be available in another industry.
• Switching costs of moving from industry to product that are low.
• Product offers the same or even good quality and performance as offered by the industry

Bargaining power of buyers
• Minimum customer switching costs are now low, but are expected to rise as new competitors from
the product, such as Electrit, enter the market.
• Buyer size is too small
• Threat from oligopoly: very low

Rivalry among existing competitors

• According to the following factors, there is less competition among existing companies.
• Size of Competitor: Very few large companies like NTPC, NLC, NHPC, NPCIL, PGCIL, etc.
• There are very few players. It's hard to let go Expansion is easy but difficult due to lack of resources and
investment.
