 DESCRIPTION

 SOCCSKSARGEN is a region of the

Philippines, located in central Mindanao, and
is officially designated as Region XII. The
name is an acronym that stands for the
region’s four provinces and one of its cities:
South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat,
Sarangani and General Santos City. The
region is more formally known by its older
name Central Mindanao. 
 CAPITAL

 The regional center is Koronadal City located

in the province of South Cotabato. Cotabato
City, though geographically within the
boundaries of the province of Maguindanao,
itself is part of SOCCSKSARGEN, and is
independent of that province. Maguindanao
province is, in fact, a part of the Autonomous
Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) which
has its seat in Cotabato City.
SOCCSKSARGEN and the province of
Maguindanao were once part of the original
Cotabato province.
 KIDAPAWAN CITY

 KIDAPAWAN, officially the City of

Kidapawan (Filipino: Lungsod ng
Kidapawan) or Kidapawan City, is the
capital city of Cotabato Province.
Located at the foot of Mount Apo, it is
a popular destination from late October
to December and in the summer, when
thousands of tourists climb the
country’s highest mountain. The word
Kidapawan comes from the words tida,
which means ‘spring’, and pawan,
which means ‘highland’.
COTABATO CITY

 Cotabato City is a coastal independent component city

in the SOCCSKSARGEN region. Although
administratively independent due to its distinction as
independent component city, Cotabato City is
commonly grouped with the province of
Maguindanao. The city serves as the regional center of
the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao.
 KORONADAL CITY

 Koronadal City is the capital of the province of

South Cotabato. The city is recognized as the
“Most Competitive City” and most business-
friendly place in Mindanao. The word
Koronadal is believed to have been derived from
two B’laan words – Koron or kolon which
means Cogon Grass and nadal or datal which
means plain. On the other hand, Marbel, which
is another name for the Poblacion, is a B’laan
term “Marb-El” which means “murky waters,”
referring to the Marbel River.
TACURONG CITY

 Tacurong, officially the City of

Tacurong is a 4th class component
city in the province of Sultan
Kudarat, Philippines.
