by the force. is done

Displacement = s Force = f  W = f × s

Types of work done

• Positive work done – when the direction of force and the

displacement is same, then there is positive work done.
• Negative work done - when the direction of force and
displacement are opposite, then there is negative work done.
• Zero work done - when force and displacement are perpendicular,
then there is zero work done.

The S.I unit of work is joule.

More about When a object is pulled with

work force of one newton and pulled
till 1 meter so, the work done will
be 1 joule.

Work is scalar quantity.

• Q) A force of 5N is acting on an  object. The object is displaced till 2m in
the direction of the force. if the force acts on the object all through the
displacement, then the work done is ?
• Ans) Given,
• Force = 5N
• Displacement = 2 m
• W = f  × s
• W = 5 × 2 = 10 J
Work done S.I unit of
= energy energy is
that why, joule.

Energy
The
energy is
Energy = the
f ×  s capacity of
a body to
do work
Types of energy

Kinetic energy

Potential energy
• Kinetic energy is the energy possessed by an
object due to its motion.
• Kinetic energy is the energy associated with
the movement of objects
• Kinetic energy = work done
Kinetic • K.E = f X s
energy • F = m x a
• S = V² - U²/ 2a
• K.E = m x a x  V² - U²/2a
• K.E =  ½  m ( V² - 0 )
• K.E =  ½ m V²

• The energy possessed by an object due to
change in position or configuration is
known as potential energy .
• Force = weight = mass x gravity
Potential • Displacement = height
energy • Work done = f x s
• W = m x g x h
• W / P.E = mgh
• Q2) An object of 20 kg moves with a velocity of 10m/s . Calculate
the kinetic energy.
• K.E = ½ m V²
• ½ x 20 x 100
• 1 x 10 X 100
• 1000J
• This law states that : energy can neither
be created nor be destroyed, but it is
interconvertible from one form to
Law of another .
conservation • P.E  + K.E = CONSTANT
of energy • mgh + 1/2mV² = constant

• Mechanical energy
Power
• Power = rate of doing work
• Power = work done \ time
• P = w\t
• S.I unit of power = joule \ second = watt (w)
• 1 watt = 1\ 1000 KW
• 1 KW = 1000J\S
• Power = W or E \ T
• E=PxT
Commercial • KW\h = 1000w x 3600s
