Where Do I Belong?
What can you say about these posted words?

Can you give me a sample scenario of what could

happen if one of these guides is missing?

How will you ensure safety in the installation

Installing lighting
fixture/switches
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

a. interpret and draw electrical plans and schematic

diagrams;
b. emphasize the importance of following safety
procedures when installing lighting fixtures/switches;
and
C. install lighting fixtures/switches in accordance with
PEC.
Vocabulary List

Single pole switch - most commonly used to operate electric

lights, permanently connected equipment, or electrical outlets.

Circuit Breaker - is an electrical safety device designed to

protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by an
overcurrent or short circuit.

Multitester (VOM) - measuring instrument that can measure

multiple electrical properties. A typical multimeter can measure
voltage, resistance, and current
Bare wire -  bare copper wire is a copper wire with
no coating

Tagging and Labeling - act of putting a label on

something, or labels that are put on something

OCPD – (overcurrent protective device) typically used

in main service disconnects, and in the feeders and
branch circuits of electrical systems for residential,
commercial, institutional, and industrial premises (e.g
breaker)
Abstraction
Demonstration
BEFORE:
1. Always make sure that you have all your PPE’s on.
 Glove, hard hat, safety goggles, safety shoes

2. Prepare your tools and equipment.

 Use appropriate tools based on the job
requirements.
 Make sure tools are in good working conditions (well
insulated, etc.).
 Post signs and barricades in the area you’re working.
 Use labels and tagging on the panel board.
 Have an attendant/partner.
DURING
1.Consider PEC requirement when installing lighting fixtures and
switches
 Use 2.0mm wire in a 15A OCPD when installing lighting fixtures.
 have a 6-8 inches extension of wire from the knockouts of a
utility box/junction box.
 Have at least 2 inches when stripping a wire.
 There should be no bare wire showing.

2.Consider the safety precaution while installing.

 Turn off the breaker before installing.
 Always treat the line as live/hot
-never touch the wire with your hands use your tools.
 Always refer to the electrical plan.
 Use an electrical tape/rubber tape to insulate the spliced wires.
- Insulate with the same width as the insulation of the wire.
AFTER
1. Perform testing and commissioning.
 Test the wiring using VOM
- Always test before energizing.
 Once it was tested, turn on the breaker.

2.Perform Housekeeping.
 Clean up, and restore.
Now let us try to find out if you’re able to post the
correct word/phrase in the “Where Do I belong”
activity.

Activity 2: Installing lighting

fixtures
Activity 2: Installing lighting fixtures
1. The teacher will divide the class into groups with three to five
members
2. The teacher will present a schematic diagram to the class and
the group will have to install the lighting fixture using the
diagram as their guide.
3. Upon installation, the students will have to follow the posted
installation tips and safety precautions which was done in activity
1: “Where Do I belong?” (will serve as guide)
4. The teacher will monitor each group’s performances and give
immediate feedback.

 This activity will serve as an exercise for the main activity

Interpret, Install, and Test”
Instruction:
1. With the same group, they will select a leader.
2. Each group will be assigned to one wiring board and with different job to install.
3. The activity has three phase. 1. Interpreting and diagramming, 2. Installation of
lighting fixtures/switches 3. Testing/troubleshooting and energizing.
4. The group leader will assign which of his/her group mates will perform first.
5. After the person/s in the first phase is done with the diagram, and once
approved by the teacher, the person/s in the 2nd phase will now have to install
the fixtures/switches using the diagram as their guide.
6. Once the person/s in the 2nd phase is done installing, they will notify the person/s
to start testing/trouble shooting (3rd phase).
7. Once the person/s in the 3rd phase is done with testing/trouble shooting, they will
notify the teacher for inspection and once approved, they will now have to
energize their work.
