1g. Coulomb's Law
1g. Coulomb's Law
Fe = k q1q2
r2
Coulomb’s Law
Example:
What force is between two point
charges that each have a charge of
-.0020 C at a separation of .50 m?
Fe = k q1q2
r2
= 8.99 x 109 N-m2/C2 (-0.0020C)((-0.0020C)
(0.50m)2
= 1.4 x 105 N
Electric field
E = F/q
Lines of Force
• The direction of an electric field is represented by
lines of force.
• The lines indicate the direction in which a positive
test charge would move if it were placed in the field.
• The configuration of the field depends on the shape
of the charged object producing the field.
