Formulate the survey in relation to your substantive and


analytical needs.

THIRD STEP

Determine the number of respondents / participants of the


survey.

FOURTH STEP

Develop the questionnaire / survey instrument.


Fitness of the questions to the overall goal of the
survey
Appropriateness of the mode of collecting data from
the participants

FIFTH STEP

If you use telephone interview, make sure to undergo


training on how to conduct / handle interview via telephone.

Eliminate interviewer effects / bias


Keep in mind the do’s and don’ts in using telephone
interview.
SIXTH STEP

Conduct an early pre-test of the survey, whenever possible.

Result can be used for revisions and improvement of


the survey / questionnaire.
Work out any bias in the procedures.

Execute the survey in the field and be ready to deal with


problems.

 Face-to-face structured

2. SELF-ADMINISTERED
APPROUCH
 Paper-and Pencil survey

FACE-TO-FACE STRUCTURED

Pros: When respondents are asked directly, the response


rates are actually good especially if visual materials are
required during the survey.

Cons: There might be bias because of the interaction. There


is also anonymity involved.
TELEPHONE SURVEY

Pros: This is applicable for asking consequential questions.

Cons: This method is not good if the participants need to


see visual materials and if the questions are long.
PAPER-AND-PENCIL SURVEY

Pros: This is a traditional survey method and this is good


for those who do not know how to use the computer access
the internet.

Cons: This requires bigger budget in terms of reproduction.


This also involves distribution of the questionnaires which
can be exhausting.
ONLINE SURVEY

Pros: This is best if the sample size is huge and they live on
different locations. There is less expense compared to mail
survey/

Cons: The respondents must know how to use the


computer to be able to answer this method.
