Water Bill

Three main types of instruments are generally used for water pricing.
1. Connection Fee or Fixed Access Charge
• It is charged from the consumer for providing a connection to a
municipal water supply system
• Connection fee or charge is based on the size of the plot or holding or
the size of connection and ferrule or a combination of plot size.
• It is charged once
2. Water Tax
• It does not depend on consumption of water
• In some states the proceeds of water tax may be pooled and used for
purposes connected with the construction,maintenance,extension
and improvement of services.
• Water tax id different for residential and non-residential properties
3.Water Charge
• It is based on consumption of water. Water consumption is measured
in m^3 or kilolitres(Kl)
Water charges are based on two components:
1. Volume of water consumed
2. A set of charger other than water consumption such as meter rent,
water cess, licence fee, maintenance charge, development etc.
• Water consumption are calculated on the basis of an Increasing Block
Tariff (IBT)
• An IBT structure is based on volume of water consumption.
