With “to be”

With “to be”

We use “to be” in questions when there is no action in the sentence:


“am/is/are” in the present tense
“was/were” in the past tense.

Exception: was/were born – был рожден!


I was born in Bishkek in 1996.

We use “auxiliary” in questions when there is a verb:

“do/does” in the present tense


“did” in the past tense.

We also can use some modal verbs instead of auxiliary ones:


Can, must, should, etc.

Prepositions in questions:

When we have prepositions in question sentences we put


them at the end:
• Who do you go to the party with?
• What did they talk about?
