Conditional Sentence

Type I, II, and III


Type I Conditional
It is used to refer to the Present or Future where the
situation is real.

The pattern :
If + S + Simple Present, S + will + V1
(Sub Clause) (Main Clause)
 Example :
1. If it rains today, you will get wet.
(Sub clause) (Main clause)

2. If you are lazy, you will not pass the exam.


Type II Conditional
It is used to refer to a time that is now or any time,
and a situation that is unreal.

The pattern :
If + S + Simple Past, S + would + V1
(Sub Clause) (Main Clause)
 Example :
1. If you went to bed earlier, you would not be tired.
(Sub clause) (Main clause)

2. If I spoken English, I would be working in England.


Type III Conditional
It is used to refer to a time that is in the Past, and a situation
that is contrary to reality.

The pattern :
If + S + Past Perfect, S + would have + V3
(Sub Clause) (Main Clause)

 Example :
1. If you had studied harder, you would have passed the exam.
(Sub clause) (Main clause)

2. If I had accepted that promotion, I would have been working in


England.
Exercise :
Complete these following conditional sentences by filling the correct
verb based on each types
1. If I ….. (finish) my assignment tonight, I will go to Mall with my friends.
2. If you cook vegetables for long time, they ….. (lose) their nutrition.
