• A-What does “Migration” refer to?

“Migration” refers to the movement of people into


or out of a specific geographic area for the purpose
of taking up permanent or semi-permanent
residence.
• B-Why do people migrate?

People migrate for a variety of reasons. They


consider the advantages and disadvantages of
staying or moving.
• C- What are the types of push and pull factors that may
influence people in their movements? Write one example
for each type.
Several types of push and pull factors may influence
people in their movements (sometimes at the same
time), including:
1. Environmental (e.g., climate, natural disasters)
2. Political (e.g., war)

• D-What is meant by “Internal Migration”? Give an example.

Internal Migration is the Movement to a new place


within a country. Rural residents’ migration to
cities is an example of Internal Migration.
• E-What is meant by “External Migration”? Give example.

External Migration is the Movement to a new place


in a different country. An Indian`s’ migration from
India to England is an example of External
Migration.
• F-What is meant by “Involuntary or Forced Migration”? Give an
example.

“Involuntary or Forced Migration” refers to the


movement of a person or persons away from their
homes or home regions against their wills.
• The 1948 Palestinian exodus, known in Arabic as the
Nakbah where many Palestinians Arab inhabitants were
forced to leave their towns and villages by the armed Israeli
occupation of their land is an example of forced migration.
• G-What is the largest group of Palestinian refugees comprised of?

The largest group of Palestinian refugees is


comprised of those Palestinians
expelled from their places of origin in 1948.
• H-What is second major group of Palestinian refugees comprised
of?

The second major group of Palestinian refugees is


comprised of those Palestinians expelled from their
places of origin in the West Bank, eastern
Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
Question Two: Define the following terms:
A- Emigrant: A person who is leaving a country to reside in
another.

B- Immigrant: A person who is entering a country from


another to take up new residence.

C- Refugee: A person who is residing outside the country of


his or her origin due to fear of persecution.
