SURVEY
 Is defined as a research method used for collecting data from a pre-
defined group of respondents to gain information and insights on
various topics of interest.
 Have variety of purpose and can be carried out in many ways
depending on the methodology chosen and the objects to be
achieved.
 A good questionnaire should be valid (it ask what intends to ask),
reliable (it gets the same answer if the same question is posed
repeatedly in a short time), clear (it is easily understood) and
interesting (it is completed by the respondents and gets better
response rate).
Remember these when you
create a survey questionnaire:
DESIGN
 The survey research design is a very valuable tool for
assessing opinions and trends. Even o a small scale, such
as local government or small business, judging opinion
with carefully designed surveys can dramatically change
strategies.
 Ask the right questions
 Use appropriate format
 Arrange the questions logically
 Make instructions clear
TEST
It is important to test your survey questionnaire
before using it to collect data.
Pretesting and piloting can help you identify
questions that don’t make sense to participants
or problems with questionnaire that might lead
to biased answers.
REVISE
You will evaluate fir general content,
organization and tone, by adding, deleting and
organizing information if necessary.
Make necessary changes and improve the
questionnaire.
The Most Common Survey
Questions
#1: THE OPEN-ENDED SURVEY
QUESTIONS
This is perhaps the
most effective
survey question
because it provides
you with the most
information.
#2: THE DICHOTOMOUS
QUESTION
This is the
common “yes
or no”
question.
#3: THE MULTIPLE CHOICE
QUESTION
 Consist three or
more answer
choices.
 We recommend
adding in an
“other” category
for certain
questions to make
sure you cover all
your bases.
#4: THE RATING SCALE
QUESTION
 Asks survey
respondents to
rate their
experiences.
 The most
common form
of rating
question uses
the Likert Scale.
#5: THE RANK ORDER
QUESTION
 This question is
effective in that
it allows you to
prioritize your
marketing
dollars into the
services that
people find the
most valuable.
