POPULATION IN SIKKIM

• The population in Sikkim in 1971 was 2,10,000 .


• the population in 1981 was 3,16,000 .
• the population in 1991 was 4,06,457 .

• the population in 2011 was 6,10,577 .

• The total population in Sikkim is about 6.19 lakhs .

CLIMATE IN SIKKIM

• The climate in Sikkim is Rainy


• As the temperature increases it starts to rain .

CULTIVATION IN SIKKIM
• The food grown in Sikkim is mainly rice and wheat .
• There is 72,668 ha land on which the Sikkim people cultivate .
• The cash crops which are grown there are oranges , cardamom , ginger ,
turmeric , cherry paper , baby corn , buck heat and pulses etc. .
• All these organis crops have high demands in domestic and international
market .
RELIGION PROPORTION

• According to 2011 census, Hinduism is the major religion with 57.76%,


followed by Buddhist with 27.39% and Christian with 9.9%. The total
population of Hindu is 352,662 and Buddhist are 167,216.
TRADITION

• The people of Sikkim are warm, simple and friendly with a nature gaiety. The customs and
rituals of Sikkim are as diverse as the ethnic that inhabit the land ; the 'Lepchas' —
essentially children of the forest , the 'Bhutias' and the 'Nepalse'. The people of sikkim love
to celebrate.
LANGUAGE

• The official languages of the state are English, Nepali, Sikkimese (Bhutia) and Lepcha.


Additional official languages include Gurung, Limbu, Magar, Mukhia, Newar, Rai, Sherpa
 and Tamang for the purpose of preservation of culture and tradition in the state. Languages

TEA GROWN
• The Sikkim is the largest producer of tea in India .
• Sikkim tea is a variety of tea grown in the state of Sikkim, India. Though is
not as widespread in use as the neighboring Darjeeling tea, it has recently
gained more recognition from the increasing demand for organic products.
The tea is mostly sold under the marketing name 'Temi tea'. After Darjeeling
tea became the first Indian product to receive a GI tag, Sikkim's Temi tea has
been waiting to receive the same .
EDUCATION

• There are 7 CENTRAL GOVERNTMENT SCHOOLS with a total


enrollment of 1,862 students .
• 341 PRIVATE SCHOOLS are functioning throughout the state with a total
enrollment of 32,264.
• In 2018 the pass percentage for CBSE class X board examination in the state
was 62.14%
• There is an increase of 5.77% in pass percentage as compared to last year .
