-He was an American Psychologist,

Pediatrician and Professor at Yale University.

-He is known for his research and contributions

to the fields of child hygiene and child development.

-He was born on June 21, 1880 at Alma,

Wisconsin, United Sates

-He died on May 29, 1961 at New Haven,

Connecticut, United States


What is Maturation?
-According to Mirriam –Webster,
Maturation is a process of becoming
mature, the process of developing in the
body or mind.

-According to Gesell, maturation is a


process of child’s development that is
directed by genes in a fixed sequences.
Gesell’s Theory focused on:

-Physical development
-Mental development

The Maturational Theory is based on 3


assumptions:
1. Development has a biological basis (genes)
2. Good and bad years alternate (stage cycle)
3. Body types
(endomorph, ectomorph and mesomorph)
