This document discusses the differences in technology preferences between older and younger generations, creating a generation gap. Younger generations prefer visual learning over text, non-linear access to hyperlinked information rather than linear learning, social and collaborative learning compared to independent learning, learning skills over test scores, instant gratification over delayed rewards, and fun learning over rote memorization. The task is for students to analyze and compare how different generations adapt to technology through an infographic presentation.

or medium at a given range of choices. “What the old generation likes may not be the same as what the new generation prefers in their life, work, and leisure.” PREFERENCES OF THE TECHNOLOGY GENERATION IS ABOUT THE CRITICAL DIFFERENCES IN PERCEPTIONS BETWEEN OLD AND YOUNG WHICH CREATE A GENERATION GAP.
• Texts versus Visual
• Linear versus Hyper media • Independent versus Social learners • Learning to do versus learning to pass the test • Delayed rewards versus instant gratification • Rote memory versus fun learning TEXT VS VISUAL LEARNING • According to Zabisco, (a digital user experience agency who produce engaging designs and content for websites and mobile. )the average person responds far better to visual information compared to just plain or text. Whether you're buying a product or revising for an exam, visual stimulation over text translation allows the brain to consume the material with more consummate ease. LINEAR VS HYPER MEDIA
• Pastgeneration obtained information in
a linear, logical, and sequential manner which made them logical, focused, and reflective thinkers. On the other hand, new generation follows a personal random access to hyperlinked digital information, less superior to elders in focus and reflection. INDEPENDENT VERSUS SOCIAL LEARNERS
• The traditional way of learning is more
on independent learning; the way of learning today encourages collaboration and cooperation among learners. The trend now is more social and that digital learning is better when it is done in groups. LEARNING TO DO VERSUS LEARNING TO PASS THE TEST • The past generation are taught by teachers because the teachers back then wanted the students to pass the test – they are basically after the score (although there is still learning, short-term learning and not on the effective learning (one that really lasts for a long time – true learning). Now, acquired skill/s is/are the determining factor/s of learning. There is much more emphasis on the process than on the outcome, although the outcome is also an important determinant of learning. DELAYED REWARDS VERSUS INSTANT GRATIFICATION • Delayed gratification refers to forgoing a smaller reward in the short term for a greater reward in the long term. This differs from instant gratification (or delay discounting), in which you seek out as much pleasure as possible in the short term without regard to achieving long- term goals. ROTE MEMORY VERSUS FUN LEARNING
• Rote learning frequently involves
repeating information until it's remembered. Learners often resort to rote memorization because they are unable to relate new information to prior knowledge. Meaningful learning is characterized by relating new information to prior knowledge. ACTIVITY 3 Analyze how people coming from different generations adapt to the recent technology. THE TASK: BY GROUP • Create an infographics/chart which compare and differentiate the preferences of the people who belong to the different generations . • OUTPUT: Printed pictures/graphs and or digital outputs • To be presented in the class • Content/Aesthetics/Presentation are the grading parameters for this activity THANK YOU!
