Ch-10 Waves

Waves :- A wave can be described as a disturbance that travels

through a medium from one location to another location.
Types of waves motion
transverse waves are waves that travel perpendicular to the direction of the
vibration . E.g.- light waves, radio waves, water waves, waves on a rope.
Longitudinal waves are waves that travel parallel to the direction of the vibration.
E.g.- sound waves in a solid, liquid or gas , compression waves on a spring.
• The wavelength of a wave is the shortest distance
between any two points in phase.
• Its SI unit is - metre( m)
Difference between transverse and longitudinal waves:-

• Transverse Waves • Longitudinal Waves
