TEMPERATURE

Temperature and Heat


Temperature :- It is the amount of heat in a body or
system .
* The instrument which measures temperature is the
Thermometer.
Heat:- It is thermal energy transferred from a warmer
body or system, to a colder one. So, one system
releases heat and the other one absorbs it.
* This thermal transfer will stop when both systems
have the same temperature( thermal equilibrium).

temperature is the degree of hotness. Its
means heat will flow from a hotter region to a
colder region.
Thermometer
• Thermometer property :- It is a property which varies according to change
of temperature .
• Every thermometer is designed on the bases of thermometric property.
• E.g. of thermometers –
1- Liquid – in – glass thermometer
Alcohol – liquid or mercury – liquid
* Thermometric substance is alcohol or mercury .
* Thermometric property :- expansion of liquid (change of volume) with an
increase of temperature.
2- Resistance thermometer ( resistance is term of electricity )
* Thermometric substances : metallic wire
* Thermometric property :- Change of resistance with the change of
temperature .
3- Constant volume gas thermometer .
* Thermometric substances : gas
* Thermometric : change of pressure with a change of temperature.
4- Thermocouple thermometer
* Thermometric substances : two different
metallic wires.
* Thermometric property :- Change of
voltage(electrical) with a change of
temperature .
Two types of scale – (i) Celsius scale(C )
(ii) Kelvin scale (K)
SI Unit of temperature is KELVIN
