HOW IS BRAIN IN LOVE ?
1- The heart beats fast, palms sweat, cheeks flush, and feelings of passion and anxiety ensue.
2- Cortisol levels increase during the initial phase of romantic love, so stressful situations can be
experienced
3- As cortisol levels rise, levels of the neurotransmitter (information-carrying chemical) serotonin
become depleted, precipitating feelings or thoughts of worry, hope, or the typical terrors of
early love
4- In the process of falling in love, high levels of dopamine are released, a chemical that
activates the reward circuit, which helps make love a pleasant experience similar to the euphoria
associated with the consumption of some drugs.
5- Oxytocin, known as the love hormone, increases, leading to feelings of contentment, calm,
and security that are often associated with bonding.
6- Vasopressin, another hormone that is produced, is linked to behavior that leads to long-term
monogamous relationships.
7- Love deactivates the neural pathway responsible for negative emotions, such as fear and
social judgment. For this reason, when we engage in romantic love, the neural machinery
responsible for making critical evaluations of other people, including those with whom we are
romantically involved, shuts down. That is the neural basis for the ancient wisdom: "Love is
blind."
