Marking Gauge
1. What is a marking gauge used for?

• The marking gauge is used to mark a single line


parallel to the edge of your work piece.

Mortise Gauge
1. What is a mortise gauge used for?
• The mortise gauge is used for marking mortise
and tenon joints.
• It is used to mark two parallel lines in line with
the edge of a work piece.

Woodworking Handsaws
1. What are handsaws used for?
• Handsaws are used for cutting wood, metal or plastic.

2. Why should we take good care of saws?


• Because the teeth can be easily damaged which
means it will not cut properly and can cause accidents.

Difference between saw blades


The more teeth = The smoother but slower the cut.

The less teeth = The rougher but faster the cut.


Woodworking Handsaws
1. What does TPI/PPI stand for?
• Teeth Per Inch / Points Per Inch
Coarse tooth blade = 2 or 3 TPI
 Used for cutting thicker pieces of wood
Fine tooth blade = 18 to 32 TPI
 Used for cutting thinner pieces
of wood or plastics up to 5mm.
The Coping Saw
1. What is a marking gauge used for?
• The coping saw is used for cutting curves
and shapes in thin pieces of wood.

2. The blade is very thin and very easily


broken.

3. Coping saws cut on the pull stroke.
