CRITICAL AND EVALUATIVE LISTENING – MEETING 3

DISTINGUISH BETWEEN FACT ND OPINION
 One of the important things in listening comprehension is the ability
to differentiate between facts and opinions. The news, information
or utterances that you listen contain mixture of facts and the
author’s opinion. Things that have happened, is true, and exist are
called facts. However, things that are believed to have happened, to
be true, and to exist are considered as opinion. Facts associate with
what we know while opinions refer to what we believe.
 All the facts can be proved by observation or finding the information in books and internet. However,
people will have different ideas about living in Jakarta, the quality of great painter, or good place to enjoy
sunrise.
