UNIT 1
PRE – TEST:
True or False
Directions: On the space provided before each item, write NANCY when the statement is factual
and KIM when it is erroneous.

NANCY 1. Theory provides concepts to name what we observe and to explain relationships
between concepts.
KIM 2. Making an inference based on an observation, often of a sample is an abductive
reasoning. You can induce that the soup is tasty if you observe all of your friends consuming it.
NANCY 3. Theory is a notion or an arrangement of thoughts planned to clarify something,
particularly one dependent on general standards autonomous of the thing to be clarified.
NANCY 4. Theory enables us to make predictions about that behavior.
NANCY 5. A principle expresses the relationship between two or more concepts or
constructs.
NANCY 6.Constructiverevises old theories and develops new ones based on continuing
research.
KIM 7.Descriptive attempts to explain what is happening.

NANCY 8. Theory explains how some aspect of human behavior or performance is

organized.
NANCY 9. Theory is to enhance the growth of the professional area to identify a body of
knowledge with theories from both within and with out the area of distance learning. That body
of knowledge grows with theory and research.
KIM 10. Theory is not planned by theorist, so as not to clarify the circumstances and end
results of wrongdoing, criminal conduct as well as misconducts.

LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
Activity 1: Write a short essay on how important does a theory in one’s research
(minimum of 150 words)(Submit your output to the college by turning in the link to the google
class______________ on or before the reflected schedule. See Rubrics in Written Outputs on
page no.______.)

As a researcher,
When writing or doing a research, questions like, What, Why and How are necessary in
order for a research to have results. However, in order for these questions to be answered,
theory takes place. A theory is a statement of what causes What, Why and How and under what
circumstances. In research you need to identify an issue, question or topic through reviewing ,
you would be able to put a theory regarding that specific issue by some proofs that you have
collected and gathered. Theory is a very important part in research. Without a theory, a
research could create and result inaccurate reporting data. The relationship between research
and theory can be explained through the definitions of their functions. Research relies on theory
and theory relies on research. Research is conducted to test a theory and the theory is then
changed based on the research findings. It is clear that a theory is an important part of a
research because it helps to find certain assumptions that later on be proven factual or
erroneous. Research is a work you do to build a grounding of speculation, and to find out if your
speculations and assumptions might result in testable hypothesis.

Activity 2:Acting like a Jury

On a scale 1-5, five (5) is the most noteworthy and one (1) being the least. Evaluate the
significance of theory. Support your answer; write it on the space provided. Submit your output
to the college by turning in the link to the Google class______________ on or before the
reflected schedule. See Rubrics in Written Outputs on page no.______.

investigates and collects information through given basis for your hypothesis and
observation, the investigator needs a clear choice of research methods. Having
idea of what information is important to a theory that guides your research

Theory helps us understand what we Theory gives an idea of assumptions

Theory is to justify reimbursement to get funding

and support. Because yes, when doing or conducting a theory,
it takes time and costs a lot of money, but this is something more
important that money, when it comes to research.

ASSESSMENT:

Explain the three (3) stages of theory development using your own words. Write it on the space
provided. Submit your output to the college by turning in the link to the google
class______________ on or before the reflected schedule. See Rubrics in Written Outputs on
page no.______.

Three stages of Theory Development:

1. Speculative- For me speculative coming from the word speculation or speculate which
means having an assumption. Forming of a theory without firm evidence. No actual
evidence is being presented, only an attempt to explain. It also means guessing what
happened or what is happening based on what the person sees, and not based on facts
or investigation, just mere curiosity.

2. Descriptive- It is opposite to speculative, because descriptive means gathering of

factual data and information on what is actually happening. An information that gives
people knowledge about a certain topic. It is elaborate, critical and explanatory.

3. Constructive- It means to develop or improve an old theory that will be used for other
research.
