TRANSPORT LAYER SECURITY (TLS

• Derived from SSL protocol.


• Provide security in transport layer.
• It encrypts data and provide a secure connection between client and
server.
• No third parties allowed.
• It ensures messages are not altered.
• It is particularly useful for private and sensitive information such as
passwords, credit card numbers, and personal correspondence. 
• TLS is used by http and smtp
SECURE SOCKETS LAYER (SSL)

• Provide security for communication between two users.


• It encrypts data and provide a secure connection between client and
server.
• It ensures integrity, authentication, and confidentiality.
• No third parties allowed.
• It ensures messages are not altered.
• It lies between application layer and transport layer. 
MULTI-PURPOSE INTERNET MAIL
EXTENSIONS (MIME)
• MIME is proposed by bell communications in 1991 in order to
expand the limited capabilities of email.
• It allows us to transfer non ASCII format such as audio, video,
images etc.
• It is able to send multiple attachments with a single message, ie. It
has unlimited message length.
• It provide support for varying content types and multi-part messages
POST OFFICE PROTOCOL -VER 3
(POP3)

• Post office protocol version 3 is the simplest protocol.


• The user can download emails from the mail server to their own email
client.
• Once the emails are downloaded locally, they can be read without an
internet connection.
• Once the emails are moved locally, they get deleted from the mail server,
freeing up space. 
• POP3 is not designed to perform extensive manipulations with the
messages on the mail server.
• POP3 is the latest version of the Post Office Protocol.
