Health Effects on human being
Deterministic – threshold dose exists (500mSv), severity is proportional to dose.
“Deterministic effects” are short-term, adverse tissue reactions resulting from a dose that is
significantly high enough to damage living tissues. The severity of a deterministic effect increases with
radiation dose above a threshold, below which the detectable tissue reactions are not observed.

Examples:
•Radiation-induced skin burns
•Cataracts
•Sterility
•Tumor Necrosis

Health Effects on human being
Stochastic – probability, no threshold, long-term/delayed effects (e.g., cancer, genetic
changes)
“Stochastic effect” is probabilistic effects that occur by chance. The effects may occur when a person
receives a high dose of radiation. These effects have an increase probability of occurrence with
increase dose.
