S7ES-IVc-4
OBJECTIVES

1. Identify the Renewable and Non-

Renewable resources of planet earth.
2. Classify resources as Renewable
and Non Renewable
3. Recognize the importance of natural
resources by using it wisely.
Unlocking of words
1. Renewable-one that can be used repeatedly and does not
run out because it is naturally replaced.
2. Non-renewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be
readily replaced by natural means at a pace quick enough to
keep up with consumption.
3. Conservation- the protection and preservation of natural
resources. Is the act of protecting earth’s natural resources for
current and future generation?

Brief
PLANET EARTH is made
Introduction up of different things- air,
water plants, animals, soil ,
rocks, minerals crude oil, and
other fossil fuels. These
things are called Natural
Resources, because they are
not made by people; rather
they are gathered from nature.
Sunlight and wind are also
natural resources. We use all
these things to survive or to
satisfy our needs.
Brief The Philippines is
Introduction consider rich in natural
resources. We have fertile
arable lands, high
diversity of plants and
animals, extensive
coastline, and rich mineral
deposits. We have natural
gas, coal and geothermal
energy. Wind and water
are also harnessed for
electricity generation.
LEARNING TASK 1: NATURAL RESOURCES MIX
AND MATCH
Directions: Natural Resources are used in the production of food, energy and other
manufacturing. Match each raw material/resources in column A and good use to it in Column B.
Write only the letter of the correct answer.

RESOURCES USES

1. Gold a. Fuel, gasoline
2. Tree b. Leather, meat, eggs
3. Cotton c. Electrical wirings

GUIDE QUESTIONS minerals,
1. What are the differences between renewable resources and nonrenewable resources?
coal,replaced
Renewable resources can be used repeatedly and does not run out because it is naturally soil while
Non-renewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be readily replaced by natural means at a pace
quick enough to keep up with consumption.
2.What are the examples of renewable resources? Water, animals, plants, timber solar energy
3.What are the examples of nonrenewable resources? Metals, fossil fuels, minerals soil, coal
4 Why Nonrenewable is limited? It has taken many thousands and millions of years to develop and
accumulate these resources.
RENEWABLE RESOURCES

• The food people eat come from

plants and animals. Plants are
replaced by new ones after
each harvest. People also eat
animals. Animals have the
capacity to reproduce and are
replaced when young animals
are born, Water ij a river or in
a well may dry up. But when
the rain comes the water is
replaced. Plants, animals and
water are resources that can be
replaced. They are Renewable
Resources.
• Most plants grow in topsoil.
Rain and floods wash away
topsoil. Can topsoil be
replaced easily? Soil comes
from rocks and materials
from dead plants and animals.
It takes thousands of years for
soil to form. Soil cannot be
replaced easily, or it takes
thousands of years for soil to
form. Soil cannot be replaced
easily, or it takes a very long
WHY NONRENEWABLE IS LIMITED?
Metals like copper, iron and aluminum are abundant on
earth. But people are using them up fast. They have to
dig deeper into the ground to get what they need. Coal,
oil and natural gas (fossil fuels) were formed from
plants and animals that lived on earth millions of years
ago. It takes millions of years for dead plants and
animals to turn into fossil fuels, soil, coal, oil and natural
gas are NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT?
All resources used by humans, including fuels, metals and building
material, come from the earth. Many of these resources are not in
endless supply. It has taken many thousands and millions of years to
develop and accumulate these resources.
CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES
To conserve natural resources
is to protect or use them wisely
without wasting them or using
them up completely.
Conserving natural resources
can make them last and be
available for future generations.
This is what sustainability of
natural resources means. Each
one of us should think about
how to make things sustainable.
Remember: the lives of future
generations depends on how
we use natural resources today.
APPLICATION: SUSTAINABILITY : A LIFESTYLE MUST BE
