OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of the occurrence of eclipses.
A. Content Standards
B. Performance The learners should be able to analyze the advantage of the location of the

At the end of the lesson 75% of the students should be able to;
1.define eclipse;
2.differentiate solar eclipse from lunar eclipse;

for each 4. appreciate the importance of safety ways in observing an eclipse.
For online students, the teacher will meet them via FB messenger for those with
limited connectivity, video lessons, ppt and test will be sent to them in their FB
classroom.
Science Concepts:
* An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object or
spacecraft is temporarily obscured, by passing into the shadow of another body.
II. CONTENT
2. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow. This can
occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned with
the Earth between considering only on the night of a full moon. A lunar eclipse
may last for up to a few hours and occur about twice a year or more
Three types of lunar eclipses:
a. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon and the sun are on exact
opposite sides of Earth and the moon is within the umbra of the shadow of
the Earth. Although the moon is in Earth's shadow, some sunlight reaches
the moon. The sunlight passes through Earth's atmosphere, which causes
Earth’s atmosphere to filter out most of the blue light. This makes the
moon appear red to people on Earth
b. A partial lunar eclipse happens when only a part of the moon enters
Earth's shadow. In a partial lunar eclipse, Earth's shadow appears very dark
on the side of the moon facing Earth. What people see from Earth during a
partial lunar eclipse depends on how the sun, Earth and moon are lined
up.
*The only safe way to directly view the sun during a solar eclipse is with special
solar filter or eclipse glasses. Eclipse glasses are made with special filters that
block thousands of times more sunlight than regular sunglasses. Ordinary
sunglasses or homemade filters are not safe for viewing the sun during an eclipse
for the intense energy of the Sun causes damage to the retina. The best way to look
at it is indirectly, as a reflection in the mirror.
