FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS
1. FATIGUE CRACKING
– due to horizontal tensile strain at the bottom of the asphaltic concrete.
2. RUTTING
– permanent deformation or rut depth along wheel load path.
3. THERMAL CRACKING
– is primarily a result of the low temperature environment. After the
thermal crack develops, water can enter the crack and cause raveling of the
joint and/or loss of base support.
