Clothing for Different Occasions

Selecting Clothes
Clothes play a part in person’s self image. People are often described through their
clothing style. Clothes make up the biggest part of a person’s physical appearance.
Clothes can bring about changes in your personal appearance. The clothes you wear
can affect you in many ways. Wearing appropriate clothes is important in satisfying
your personal need.

Keeping in mind the guidelines in selecting clothes would help you decide the most
appropriate attire for an activity or occasion.
Here are some points to consider in selecting clothes.

1. The color of the clothes should complement the person’s complexion. Colors like red and
green are good for those with fair complexion. On the other hand, cream and pastel colors are
appropriate for people with brown complexion.

2. Clothe with vertical designs make one look tall and slim. These are good for persons who
are short and plump.

3. Clothes with horizontal lines make a figure appear shorter and wider. These are good for
persons who are tall and slim.
4. Clothes with large designs suits persons with slim figure while small designs are suitable
for the plump ones.

5. Clothes should fit the age, occasion, time, place, weather condition, and one’s role in a
particular gathering or activity.
Different Kinds of Clothing
Wearing the appropriate attire makes one feel comfortable and attractive. It
must suit the occasion, time, and place.

Selecting clothes wisely and carefully is important. Wearing the right


clothes gives comfort and self confidence.
1. Uniform are worn in offices
and schools. Girls wear blouse
and skirt while boys wear polo
shirt and long pants. Uniforms
should be easy to wash. They
must also be durable.
2. Clothes worn daily at home
should be loose, durable and
simple in style. Cotton is a type of
fabric most appropriate for home
wear because it is absorbent and
can be washed easily. Wear clothes
that are neat and clean even at
home.
3. Elegant clothes are worn during
special occasions like birthdays,
weddings, and other related
celebrations. They nay be single in
style but are made of special fabrics
like silk, linen, wool and satin.
4. Clothes worn during
bedtime, should be simple and
loose, light, and absorbent.
Pajamas, dusters, and nighties
are comfortable to wear.
5. Bathing suits, shorts and
swimming trunks are worn in
swimming pools and beaches.
6. Dress, clothes with sleeves,
and pants are appropriate for
religious activities held in
places of worship. Refrain
from wearing with hollow
opening at the neck and at the
back. It is proper to follow
what is prescribed and
accepted by your religious
group.
Caring for Clothes
Why is it important for teenagers to learn how to wash their
own clothes, bleaching and ironing them?
Clothes will last longer if they are well taken care of. Here are some
reminders on how to keep your clothes presentable.

1. Immediately change clothes which you have already worn. Hang


your clothes and let them dry before putting them in the hamper.
2. Hang clean clothes especially those for outdoor activities. Clothes worn
at home may be folded and arranged neatly in the closet.

3. Fold and place rarely worn clothes inside a plastic bag or keep them on
the upper part of the wardrobe cabinet. Keep them clean, neatly folded and
free from spots or stains.

4. Repair at once clothes with rips, unstitched hems, tears, and holes.

5. Remove stains immediately while they are still fresh.


Removing Stains
Clothes must be free from stains. To have a stain on one’s clothes does not
speak well of the person. Today, it is easy to remove stains with the use of
newly formulated detergents.

Here are effective ways of removing stains.
