AIM: DYING OF FABRIC USING AZODYES

MATERIALS REQUIRED

6 beakers, 500 mL Tripod stand Wire gauze Glass rod Spatula Wool cloth Cotton cloth Sodium carbonate Tannic acid Tartaremetic
Azodyes.

PROCEDURE
1. PREPARING A SODIUM CARBONATE SOLN:
Take about 0.5 g of solid sodium carbonate and dissolve it in 250 ml of water. PREPARING OF TARTAREMETIC SOLN: Take about 0.2g of tartarematic and dissolve it in 100 ml of water by stirring with the help of glass rod.

Measure 1 g of tannic acid. Dissolve the tannic acid in 100 ml of distilled water. Heat the solution. On heating clear sol of tannic acid is obtained.

2. PREPARING TANNIC ACID SOLN:

3.PREPARTION OF DYE SOLUTION

Measure 0.1 g of azodyes. Dissolve the azodyes in 400 ml of distilled water. On warming clear solution of dye resulted.

4.DYING OF WOOL
Take about 200ml of dye soln and dip and dip it in the wool cloth to be dyed. Boil the soln for about 2 minutes. After that remove cloth and wash it with hot water 3-4 min, squeeze and keep it for drying.

5.DYEING OF COTTON
Cotton does not absorb azodyes readily, therefore it requires the use of a mardant. For dyeing a cotton cloth dip it in sodium carbonate soln for about 10 min and then rinse with water. Then put the cloth in hot tannic acid soln for about 5 min. Now take out the cloth from tannic acid soln and keep it in tartaremetic soln for about 5 min. Remove the cloth squeeze it with spatula to remove most of the soln .Now place the cloth in boiling soln of the for about 2 min. Remove

and wash the dyed cloth thoroughly with water, squeeze and keep it for drying.

6. DYING OF COTTON DIRECTLY

Take another piece of cloth and put it directly into boiling soln of the dye .Keep it dipped for about 2 min .Remove the cloth ,wash with water, squeeze and keep it for drying,. Compare the colour of this cloth with that of dyed by using mardant.

OBSERVATION
The colour oh wool cloth dyed directly by dipping in hot soln of azodyes in fast. the colour of cotton cloth dyed directly by dipping in hot soln of azodyes is not fast to washing and is low intensitry. The colur of cotton dyed indirectly by using mardant and then by dipping in hot soln of azodyes is fast to washing and is high intensity.

RESULT
Piece of wool and cotton is successfully dyed.

PRECAUTIONS
Crease marks may develop in the cotton cloth while dyeing. Use tannic acid carefully. Handle the apparatus with care.
