ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

BASIC OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

MULTI DISCIPLINARY NATURE OF

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
Course Title: Course Code: AGBS - INDORE

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENT?
Environment is everything that is around us. It can
be living or nonliving things. It includes physical,
chemical, and other natural forces. Living things live
in their environment. They constantly interact with
it and adapt themselves to conditions in their
environment.

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL
STUDIES?
Environment studies is all about learning the way
we should live and how we can develop
sustainable strategies to protect the
environment. It helps individuals to develop an
understanding of living and physical environment
and how to resolve challenging environmental
issues affecting nature.

NEED OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Nature or environment sustains life. As a conscious and
rational being, man needs to know the importance of
environment and help keep the environment as healthy
and productive as it can be. It is the environment that
has made this beautiful world possible for him. Hence,
there is an ever-demanding need for environmental
studies.

There is a need to clarify modern environmental

concepts such as how to conserve biodiversity and
maintain an ecological balance.

There is a need for focus on environmental

management, laws governing environment protection,
pollution and recycling of non-bio-degradable material,
etc. There is also a need for careful and cautious use of
natural resources in the present time to establish
sustainability in every aspect of nature.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Environments may be natural or built. A natural
environment is a type of environment found in nature. It
includes all naturally occurring things, both living and
nonliving. It, therefore, involves the complex
relationships of weather, climate, living species, and
natural resources.

WHAT IS BUILT/MAN-MADE
ENVIRONMENT?
The built or man-made environment touches all aspects of our
lives, encompassing the buildings we live in, the distribution
systems that provide us with water and electricity, and the
roads, bridges, and transportation systems we use to get from
place to place.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY NATURE OF
ENVRONMENT

A broad field of study, environmental studies

incorporates elements of biology, physics, chemistry,
medical science, agriculture, and geography. It goes
beyond simply managing resources and protecting the
environment. Still, it also emphasizes comprehension:

IMPORTANCE OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY
NATURE OF ENVIRONMENT

 By giving a necessary comprehension of environmental systems and

processes, it aids in the preservation of ecological balance.
 It informs us of the environmental changes brought on by anthropogenic
factors.
 Additionally, it instructs us on how to evaluate various environmental
systems and changes brought on by human activity.
 Its objective is to protect and preserve biodiversity. It introduces us to
various animal and plant species. It offers us many methods for
preserving and protecting them.
 It enlightens us to our duties in protecting the environment. Additionally,
it alerts us to a number of environmental issues that demand immediate
attention.

COMPONENTS OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY
NATURE OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
 Anthropology : is the study of human characteristics, psychological and
biological health, social groups and cultures, as well as the development and
evolution of people. EVS is related to anthropology because it investigates
how people interact with their surroundings across space and time.
 Biology : is a branch of science that focuses on the investigation of living
things. Included are their physicochemical processes, molecular interactions,
development, and evolution. EVS is related to biology because it is focused on
the natural surroundings of living things.
 Chemistry : is a branch of science that studies substances that make up
matter, including chemicals. In order to comprehend natural occurrences in
EVS, chemistry knowledge is required.
 Computers : As technology has advanced, everyone now needs computers.
The Environmental Protection Agency monitors pollutants found in soil and
water using computers.
Course Title: Course Code: AGBS - INDORE

 Geology : is the study of the materials and physical features found on

Earth, as well as their origins and the processes they underwent. Earth
and environmental studies are another focus of EVS.
 Economics : is a study area that looks at how goods and services are
produced, consumed, and distributed. By analyzing and creating solutions
to environmental problems, various economic strategies have been
established to protect the environment from pollution, global warming,
and climate change.
 Physics : is a branch of science that looks at how matter and energy
interact in space and time. Energy conservation, atmospheric modeling,
and numerous other environmental issues are all addressed in physics.
 Sociology : is the study of social interaction, development, social causes,
and the effects of human behavior on society. The relationship between
modern society and the environment is also covered.
 Statistics : is the study of the collection, analysis, interpretation, and
presentation of quantitative data. In order to identify trends and suggest
the best environmental growth, it is also used to evaluate data.
