• A trend is a sequential pattern of change in


recorded data - a change evidence by a rise
or fall of variable when measured between at
least two points over time.
• Trend must pass basic tests of significance; a
change that affects a wide range of people
and that has broad social, economic,
cultural, spiritual, and political implications.

they are a larger pattern of broad trends
that reshape and transform our lives.

• Microtrends – are the emerging small


forces behind tomorrow’s big changes.
HOW IS A TREND
DIFFERENT FROM FAD?
Fads typically spread quickly, but
disappear equally quickly.
Trends overlap and interlock,
reinforcing each other.
Trends can also run counter to each
other and cancel each other out.
