The Election of 1937:

Provincial elections were held in British India in the winter

of 1936-37 as mandated by the Government of India Act
1935. Elections were held in eleven provinces
- Madras, Central Provinces, Bihar, Orissa, United
Provinces, Bombay
Presidency Assam, NWFP, Bengal, Punjab and Sindh.
The final results of the elections were declared in
February 1937. The Indian National Congress emerged in
power in eight of the provinces - the exceptions
being Punjab and Sindh. The All-India Muslim League
failed to form the government in any province.
THE WARDHA SCHEME:
Congress Rule brought in the Wardha Education Scheme which
focused on Hindu religion and culture in schools.
 All children had to sing Band e Mataram as the anthem and bow
to the portrait of Gandhi.
 The Vidya Mandir Scheme was introduced in Central Provinces
at the primary level of school and Hindi was the medium of
instruction.
 The Congress flag was hoisted on the public buildings.
 Policies were made which harmed the interests of Muslim
Landowners.
 In Bihar, cow slaughter was banned.
The PIRPUR REPORT,1938
 On March 28, 1938, the Council appointed an eight-member
committee under the presidentship of Raja Syed Muhammad Mehdi
of Pirpur that presented its report on, November 15, 1938. It tried
to dig out the cruelties of the Congress ministries in seven
provinces.
 The report tried to bring light to the grievances of Muslims and
Muslim groups in Indian states run by Congress governments; the
effort led to documents like the PIRPUR REPORT : 1938, Muslim
sufferings under The Congress rule by A. K. Fazl ul Haq.
