A STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF

PRODUCTION PLANNING:
OBJECTIVES:

 To study and analyses the process of

production planning of 6 inch submersible
pumps.
 To investigate the process of order generation
for raw material from purchase department
and the further process of manufacturing.
 To reduce the in process rejection by following
SOP (standard operating procedure) .
SCOPE OF PRODUCTION PLANNING:

 Capacity planning
 Product design and selection
 Process selection and planning
 Maintenance and replacement
 Scheduling and routing
Introduction :
History of KSB Pumps:

 KSB is a German based company which was founded in 1871 by

Johannes Klein.
 The KSB Group is among the leading companies in the field of pumps
and valves with subsidiaries and affiliated companies all over the world.
 The KSB name stands for klein schanzlin & beckers .
 During the last three decades, the Company has rapidly expanded its
production range to include a large variety of pumps to serve various
sectors of the economy.
 In the agricultural sector, KSB’s name is synonymous with productivity
and reliability.
 The latest technology and knowhow has been made available to KSB
customers.
PLANT PROFILE :
 KSB Pumps Ltd is one of leading manufacturers of pumps and valves, was
started at Sinnar (Nasik) in December 1994 KSB Pumps is multinational
company has collaboration with KSB Germany.
 This company manufactures its product under the continuous quality
control. Therefore it is accepted in national and international market.
 KSB Pumps Ltd Sinnar has been designed various types of Pumps,
which is always useful for different purposes.
 KSB produce a large variety of pumps to serve various sectors of the
economy.
 The new pumps for local production have been selected to particularly
meet the requirements of sugar, paper and other process and chemical
industries apart from meeting the requirements of drinking water
supply, sewage disposal and surface drainage schemes.
 The latest additions have been pumps of large capacity which are
specifically meant for irrigation and drainage applications.
WHAT IS PRODUCTION PLANNING :
Production :-
Production is the process of combining various material inputs and immaterial
inputs in order to make something for consumption. It is the act of creating an
output, a good or service which has value and contributes to the utility of
individuals.

Production planning :-

 Production planning is the planning of production and manufacturing  modules

in a company or industry.

 It utilizes the resource allocation of activities of employees, materials

and production capacity, in order to serve different customers.

  Production planning helps organizations make the production process as

efficient as possible.

 It is  a strategic plan which manufacturers do whenever they want to produce

goods.

Research Methodology :

Research:
 “Research is an original contribution to the existing stock of
knowledge making for its advancement. It is the pursuit of truth with
the help of study, observation, comparison and experiment.

Methodology:
 It is the way to systematically solve the research problem. It may be
understood as a science of studying how research is done
scientifically.
 Research comprises defining and redefining problems,
formulating hypothesis or suggested solutions; collecting organizing
and evaluating data; making deductions and reaching conclusions;
and last carefully testing the conclusions to determine whether they
fit the formulating hypothesis.
For collecting data the following
methods are used :
PRIMARY DATA:-

 Primary data are those which are collected afresh and for the first time, and thus
happen to be original in character.

1) Unstructured Interview
2)Observation Method

SECONDARY DATA:-

 Secondary data means the data that are already available i.e. they refer to the data
which have already been collected and analyzed by someone else. This data may either
be published data or unpublished data.

1) Journals
2) Data stored at the department in company
3) Internet

Data Analysis & Interpretation :
 In KSB pump ltd the production plan of 6 inch submersible pump
is prepared on monthly basis. This plan is then divided into 4
weeks and according to that daily production order is generated.
Planning process of 6 inch submersible pump shown below.
Sr.no. Part name Available in stock in Needed to purchased in
units units

1 Stage bowl 6600 13400

2 N.R.V. 460 1540

3 Suction 620 1380

4 Discharge 860 1140

5 Impeller 7530 12470

Analysis:
From above chart it is found that there is variation in the stock of raw material required for
manufacturing in month of June and July 2020. Hence it will affect the production to be carried
out but immediate purchase order is raised by company to avoid such circumstances.

Interpretation:
The production of 6 inch submersible pump depends upon the order received from market for
each month. The monthly orders are consistent and hence there is little variation in production.
On that basis the purchasing of raw material is done. Due to this, raw material available in store
is low and every month they have to give purchase order. Unless the material is procured, the
production cannot be started which affects the overall planning process.

Recommendations and Suggestions
 Instead of purchasing raw material on monthly basis purchase orders
should be raised for 3 month or 6 months as customers orders are
consistent.

 Tools of machine should be replaced on time so as to avoid defective

manufacturing.

 The production plan should be followed as per its schedule from raw
material procuring to final assembly so as to get efficiency of the
production function.

 Changeover should be carried out periodically to avoid machine

maintenance problem.

 SOP (standard operating procedure) should be strictly followed by

every department to avoid defective manufacturing.
