1.2 Linbcoln’s Experience At 21 , he was empolyed by a merchant to help him run a
small store. But he was indeed not talented in selling things.
For example, once he received six and a quarter cents more
from a woman which made him so panic that he covered a
distance of 6 miles. However, it also gained a high reputation
for him.
During that time, some familiar customers may laughed at his
outlook, but he didn’t get angry. He use his humour to avoid a
embarrassing situation. In this case, he had a positive
relationship with all customers.
There’s not much work so Lincoln make full use of his spare
time to learn more about law and grammar.Every Saturday he
went to dinner party. His jokes, impromptu speech and
political opinion convinced many people.

A pen and a piece of paper were provided and

I'm afraid I'm not going to recover. Don't grieve
too much for me, please. Kiss Mary and John for
me. May God bless you and fatber." The soldier
was too weak to continue, so Lincoln signed the
letter for him and added, "Written for your son
by Abraham Lincoln."

had written it. "Are you really the
President?" he asked. "Yes I am,"

there was anything else hecould do.
"Would you please hold my hand?" the

1.2 Linbcoln’s Experience

A feedback to his tolerance

A young soldier called Scott once volunteered to stand sentry in place of a
sick comrade-in-arms.However, he fell asleep when guarding which led to his
execution by shooting.Lincoln went to have a talk with him in the tent after
knowing that thing. He told him the execution would be canceled after having
a basic understanding of him. In the end, Lincoln said,”You owe me a lot of
debt. Are you willing to pay it back?” Scott responded,” I can only gather
about 500 dollars.” Obviously,he misunderstood the president.Lincoln
carefully explained that the debt is far more than that money;only courage and
dedication can repay it.Afterwards,Scott fought bravely until he was seriously
injured and couldn’t stand from bed.On his deathbed, he asked someone to
deliver a message to the president, said, he He had tried his best to pay his
debts and thank the president again for letting him die as a soldier on the
battlefield rather than die as a coward by his battle companion.
