or circles on a work piece
 Indicates the size, shape and areas to be
machined
1. Apply a thin coat of blue layout dye to
the work surface
2. Loosen the nut on combination square and
set the rule to the correct measurement
3. Scribe dimension using
scriber and combination square
4. Scribe center lines
5. Use center punch to mark hole locations
Drilling

machine is operating

 Always use a BRUSH to clean away chips;

straight before starting the operation
Sensitive Drill Press
Drilling
 Remove all chuck keys and wrenches before
operating

 Never place tools or equipment on the drilling

tables

 Keep all guards in place while operating

 Ease up on the feed as the drill breaks through

the work to avoid damage to tools or work pieces

 Apply cutting fluid to the center mark and apply

additional cutting fluid as necessary to keep the
drill bit cool
Cutting speed formula

You must know what type of material is being

drilled to correctly set the RPM of the drill
 Secure your drill bit into the drill chuck
by tightening the CHUCK at all three
points, using correct CHUCK KEY
Using the clamped or bolted down vise, line up
the drill bit before starting to drill holes
Clamping the vise prevents rotation
