INTRODUCTION
• Heat stroke also known as sun stroke is a condition
caused by your body overheating, usually as a result
of prolonged exposure to or physical exertion in high
temperatures. This most serious form of heat injury,
heatstroke can occur if your body temperature rises
to 104f (40c) or higher
• Heatstroke requires emergency treatment.
Untreated heatstroke can quickly damage worsens
the longer treatment is delayed , increasing your risk
of serious complication
SIGN AND SYMPTOMS
Heatstroke include:
• High body temperature. A body temperature of 104f (40c)
or higher is the main sigh of heatstroke.
• Headache. Your head may throb.
• Dizziness and confusion .
• Loss of appetite and feeling sick.
• Excessive sweating and pale, clammy skin.
• Cramps in the arms, legs and stomach.
• Fast breathing or pulse.
• being very thirsty
CAUSES
Heat stroke is condition caused by your body
overheating, usually as a result of prolonged
exposure to or physical exertion in high
temperatures. The most serious form of heat
injury, heatstroke , can occur if your body
temperature rises to 104f (40c) or higher. The
condition is most common in the summer
months.
TYPES OF HEAT STROKE
• There are two type of heat stroke
• exertional heatstroke is cause by an increase in core body
temperature brought on by intense physical activity in hot
weather. Anyone exercising or working in hot weather can get
extertional heatstroke, but it’s most likely to occur if you are not
used to high temperature. Is a medical emergency defined as life-
threatening hyperthermia (core body temperature >40.5c(105f)
and central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction. EHS is one of the
top three causes of sudden death in athletes.
• Non –exertional heat stroke occurs in those who cannot adapt
wee to increasingly hot temperatures. Older and adults , people
with chronic illness, and infants are often affected
RISK FACTOR
• Age . The ability to cope with extreme heat depends
on the strength of your central nervous system
• Exertion in hot weather
• Sudden exposure to hot weather
• A lack of air conditioning
• Certain medication such as (benezodiazepaines,
calcium blockers, laxatives, neuroleptics, and
thyroid agonists)
• Certain health condition
COMPLICATION
• Heatstroke can result in a number of complications,
depending on how the body temperature is high.
Severe complication include :
• Vital organ . Without a quick response to lower body
temperature, heatstroke can cause your brain or other
vital organs to swell, possibly resulting in permanent
damage.
