Sedimentation

By: Rivera Benitez Gregorio

• We define as
"sedimentation" the
natural process by which
the particles heavy that the
water, which is in its sine in
suspension, are removed
by the action of gravity.

General Equation of Resistance

Fres = f ( Vs, L,Ω, ρ, μ )

• Where,
• Vs is the sedimentation velocity of the
Laws that particle.
• L is a characteristic length, in our case the
govern it diameter dp of the particle.
• Ω is a characteristic area and in our case it
is the area that is obtained from a cut the
particle with a plane that contains its
barycenter.
• ρ is the specific mass of the particle.
• μ is the dynamic viscosity of the liquid.
Laws that govern it
• Newton's Law of Sedimentation

 Where
 Vs is the sedimentation velocity of the
particle.
 g is gravity constant
 ρ the specific mass of the Water.
 ρs is the specific mass of the particle.
 dp is the diameter of the particle.
