Marking out Holes for Dowels X

1) To begin we already have found

the 2 points on the edges as we
got they when marking our
curve on the ends. To get these
we came in 25mm from the
edge and then down 25mm.

2) To find the middle points we

first have to find the distance
from the edge of the halving
joint to the top of the dovetail
halving joint. We call it X.

3) After finding the distance we

divide it by 3. E.G. 90/3= 30mm

4) This gives us our 3 equal spaces.

We come down 25 for halfway
and mark off our points.

Dowel Rods
•After we have drilled all 4 holes,
we move onto fitting the dowel
rods.

• The rods are cut up into lengths

of 160mm. We then cut them
down into four 40mm pieces
using our saw and bench hook.

•These then fit into the holes

created.

Applying Oil
•When using Danish Oil we make sure that the
room is well ventilated as the fumes can cause
headaches and dizziness.

• We use the gloves located at the back of the

room.

• We apply a small amount of oil to a cloth and

rub it into our piece. We do this on all surfaces
making sure to have a even application.

• As the oil soaks into the cloth we wont need to

apply a lot onto it as the oil will spread easily.

• We then leave the pieces to dry on the allocated

bench.
